5 State Parks Along 30A Worth Exploring

One of the things that makes 30A so special is how much natural beauty has been preserved alongside its beach communities.

We obviously have the white-sand beaches and beautiful Gulf waters that first bring people here, but there’s much more to explore. Coastal dune lakes, pine forests, wetlands, trails and protected shoreline are all part of the landscape, and our state parks are some of the best places to experience it.

Whether you live here, own a second home or are simply visiting, these are five state parks along and near 30A that are worth exploring.

Camp Helen State Park

Located just east of 30A near Inlet Beach, Camp Helen State Park is surrounded by water on three sides, with Lake Powell to the east and the Gulf of Mexico to the south.

Lake Powell is one of the area’s rare coastal dune lakes, and Camp Helen is a beautiful place to experience both the lake and the Gulf in one visit.

You can kayak or paddleboard, fish, swim, walk the trails or simply pack a picnic and spend a few hours exploring. The park also has an interesting history, with several historic buildings remaining from its years as a private resort.

Deer Lake State Park

If you’ve driven along 30A, you’ve probably passed Deer Lake State Park without realizing how much is tucked behind the entrance.

The park protects Deer Lake, one of our coastal dune lakes, as well as dunes, wetlands and native vegetation. A long boardwalk takes you across the dunes to a beautiful stretch of beach that feels noticeably different from some of the busier beach accesses along 30A.

It’s a great place for walking, enjoying the beach, wildlife watching and seeing some of the natural landscape that makes this part of Florida so unique.

Eden Gardens State Park

Eden Gardens offers something completely different from our beachside parks.

Located on Tucker Bayou in Point Washington, the park is known for its moss-draped live oaks, gardens and the historic Wesley House.

The grounds are beautiful for a leisurely walk, particularly when the azaleas and camellias are blooming. You can explore the gardens, enjoy views of Tucker Bayou or take a guided tour of the Wesley House.

It’s one of those places that reminds you there’s much more to this area than the beach.

Grayton Beach State Park

Grayton Beach State Park is one of my favorites and one of the best places to experience the natural side of 30A.

The park includes beautiful Gulf beaches, trails through the coastal landscape and Western Lake, another of 30A’s coastal dune lakes.

You can spend the day swimming, paddle or kayak on Western Lake, fish, hike or bike the trails. There are also cabins and campsites for those who want to stay inside the park.

It’s easy to understand why this area has remained such an important part of the character of Grayton Beach.

Location: 357 Main Park Road, Santa Rosa Beach

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

On the western end of 30A, Topsail Hill Preserve State Park encompasses miles of preserved coastline, dunes, pine forests, wetlands and coastal dune lakes.

It’s one of the larger natural areas along 30A and a great choice if you want to spend more than an hour or two exploring. You can hike or bike the trails, enjoy the beach, fish or simply experience a quieter side of the Emerald Coast.

The diversity of the landscape is what makes Topsail particularly interesting. In one visit, you can experience everything from the Gulf and dunes to lakes and forest.

More Than Beautiful Beaches

When people first discover 30A, it’s usually the beaches that get their attention. But after you’ve spent some time here, you begin to realize how much of the area’s appeal comes from everything surrounding them.

The state parks, coastal dune lakes, trails, forests and protected land help preserve the natural beauty that makes 30A feel different from many other coastal destinations.

For those of us who live here, they’re also part of the lifestyle. You can spend the morning walking a trail at Grayton Beach State Park, paddle on a coastal dune lake, bike along 30A or simply find a quiet stretch of beach and enjoy where you are.

It’s one of the many reasons people come here on vacation and eventually start thinking about what it would be like to own a home here.

Considering a Home Along 30A?

If you’ve fallen in love with the 30A lifestyle and are considering a primary home, second home or investment property, I’d be happy to help you explore the different communities and find the one that fits how you want to enjoy your time here.
