Getting to Know Dune Allen Florida

Sitting amongst coastal dune lakes and 1600 acres of Topsail Hill State Preserve, this beach town offers something for everyone.

Before the 1900’s, Stallworth Lake, one of the coastal dune lakes in Dune Allen, was known to have flowed from the Choctawhatchee River to the Gulf of Mexico. It was a tourist attraction then which ended up attracting people to settle in the area! Oyster Lake, another coastal dunes lake, which is shaped similar to an oyster, has a history of once being filled with many oysters. The lakes in Dune Allen remain popular sites for tourists and residents alike.

What is so charming about this town is that you will see huge, modern homes, beach cottages, small cinder block houses perched atop a dune, and wooded homes on stilts all within a few blocks. The variety of architecture and the hues of color, make Dune Allen so palatable to the senses because it stirs a feeling of ease that anything goes. From gold to flip-flops, all is acceptable in this tranquil atmosphere.

Unwind and enjoy the serenity of nature at Topsail Hill State Preserve, ranked as one of Florida’s most treasured parks. It has 3.2 miles of beaches for your swimming pleasure, with dunes that are of 25 feet high! You can canoe or kayak on Lake Campbell, another coastal dunes lake; hike and bird watch on the 13 miles of trails, or go fresh water fishing for bass and catfish, for example or even do a little salt water fishing for pompano (but remember to bring you salt water fishing license!).

There is a wonderful Beach Access in Dune Allen called Ed Walline. It has beachfront parking, restroom facilities, covered areas to get out of the hot sun and sit and picnic and an elevated viewing area. In addition, this beach access is ADA accessible!

There are fashionable shops to tickle anyone’s fancy and restaurants to suit everyone’s taste in Gulf Place, the commerce area of Dune Allen, across the street from the beach.
